Company Head and Founder
From his early years at the helm of a drum line, to his recent career as an event promoter, Don Tonic brings a lifetime of leadership experience to all his endeavors. A consummate entrepreneur, he instills his professional enterprises with the same enthusiasm and dedication that has brought him such distinguished success as a musician. This ethos of quality and competence did not develop overnight, however, as Don is quick to point out. He credits the guidance of his former employers with fashioning his exceptionally high standards in business management.
In his ten-year tenure with Low Country BBQ, one of the top five caterers in the Southeastern U.S., Don first proved his aptitude as a self-starter. Quickly gaining responsibility within the company, he soon found himself supervising the crew during the most demanding events. His natural ability and eagerness were immediately recognized by the organization's upper ranks who, in turn, rewarded him with an apprenticeship in the operation of a successful business. As a contracted musician for M3 (also known as Mady Multimedia) Don gained significant insight into the world of entertainment production. Working closely with technical directors and clients alike, he witnessed first-hand the necessary combination of proficiency and professionalism that make for an outstanding show. Both experiences supplied Don with invaluable real-world skills in organizational logistics and administration.
Now, as founder and head of Sonic Entertainment, Don Tonic has coalesced his sophisticated business acumen and sincere passion for music into an exciting production company. Providing services from band and DJ bookings to videography & web casting to state-of-the-art sound systems, he and his associates offer a complete, cohesive entertainment experience, specially designed to suit the occasion. Additionally, Don can be contacted as a musical consultant to restaurateurs or retailers seeking a distinctive atmosphere for their establishments. Drawing on over two decades as a professional musician, Don's expertise in audio aesthetics can create the perfect acoustic complement to any environment.
Pro DJ:
A classically-trained percussionist, Don's connections to the art of music are deep and lifelong, following a path of education and performance that spans two decades. Drumming is at the core of his musicianship, and it was as a drummer that an understanding of the nuanced complexity of DJing first became apparent to him. As an accompanying instrumentalist, Don has provided rhythmic support for such electronic luminaries as Mark Farina, Sasha and Miguel Migs. It was through these memorable experiences—sharing an intimacy in sonic exploration with some of the world's best DJs—that Don Tonic discovered his trademark sound.
The transition from the drums to the decks was inevitable. In ten years time, he has amassed an impressive resume as a DJ; including high-profile sets at Miami's infamous Winter Music Conference, dozens of wedding & corporate events, night club residencies & a multitude of other scenarios. He was the Music Director at Slice—a trendy pizzeria and martini bar in ATL's Castleberry district— from 2003-2006 where he played host to a variety of weekly DJ events as part of his Sonic Entertainment promotional collective.
These days he can most likely be found gigging at underground and private parties, weddings, making a guest appearance on a radio show, or rocking the dance floor at a local hotspot. He's also been in high demand for an a sound he calls "D.T. Radio"—that covers the musical spectrum from latin and downtempo to rock and rap to top 40 & pop. Designed after the model of free-form radio, Don fashions these sets to adapt to the tastes of any audience, from corporate to club. And it is this versatility, this fullness of scope, that defines Don Tonic as an artist and DJ—clearly a unique talent among many.
